Inspiration

Love this website: lookbook nu gives me inspirations without spending a fortune!

where I work, eat and breathe

yup - this is where I work -- my messy studio slash living slash dining room. We dont really eat at the table, unfortunately because I tend to hoard the dining table with my paints.

raspberry filled cupcakes

Jeff's birthday is today so I decided to use that as an excuse to bake something for him to bring to work. I dont tolerate gluten very well but enjoy baking very much. Jeff's favorite fruit is raspberry and he likes them on EVERYTHING - pies, cakes, cookies, jam, etc.

I used Billy's very vanilla cupcake recipe (recommended by martha stewart on her website) but added my twist by filling them with raspberry curd ( from scratch --using frozen raspberries and cornstarch). Anyway, just had one today. Thought they turned out pretty good -- the cake itself was moist but rich. I'm not fond of raspberries but thought it tasted pretty good. i think next time i'd use vanilla frosting instead of cream cheese.

grandma's framed paint mixing sheets

My grandma (muffin) died 9 years ago while I was a student at RIT. She was a ballet dancer and artist. I often wished I had training in ballet and her height ;) Now I'm older- I think I'm a lot like her more than any of my family members. I am reserved, I paint, appreciates the classics, idolizes Martha Stewart and can be outspoken - just like her. Grandma Muffin always had fantastic taste - She was very peculiar with color. I remember thinking *groans* why did she have to pick pastels?!! now I love it - the colors I tend to gravitate towards are butter yellow, soft aquas, greys, chartruese-like greens... My mother wasn't too fond of her (cant blame her really) and I think that influenced me as a child - that and the lack of communication among us. It was always boring over there for family gatherings so i'd keep myself busy by exploring her tiny house and her closet. It was like candyland - uknow? the smell of old paint, mystery letters and photos. She always had games too. I loved that. Through materials, her art and pictures - I definitely have more appreciation and respect for her now.

I loved her Glencoe house and was sad to see it go. It was in bad shape - had no foundation, and was falling apart due to the earthquake. Even though my family kept some characteristics (moldings, door, the porch swing) of the old house - the new house has no integrity of the previous house that I remembered - it's blue and feels sterile.
One of my favorite characteristic of the house was the visible exterior shingles in the kitchen.. yes in the kitchen!! A long time ago - my grandfather ( I thinnnk) had expanded the house by building the kitchen outside of the house and I remember as a little girl i'd touch the glossy painted butter yellow shingles whenever I pass through the kitchen. I thought it was the best thing everrr - i also loved her galley style jack n jill bathroom and how it'd smell like jean nate powder every time I visited. The barn in her backyard was majestic!! bigger than the house itself and it was so old. I thought it was fun to see something so farm like in a city setting. Barn style garages are popular nowadays- especially in the East Coast. --- everytime I see one, I think of the old Glencoe house.

Anyway baccck to the point, after her death, I took all of her art supplies because I would put them to good use. Recently i found three sheets of her oil mixing papers wedged in one of the sketchbooks - they were evidently old and thought they were kind of pretty. The paper smelled like her closet at her old house -- I wanted to preserve it so I went to ikea - bought three Ribba frames for 4.99 each and voila! When Jeff and I move to a new place - ill definitely find a place for them.. Right now they're sitting on my shelf in the apartment.

Summer

It's been a tough summer. I did get inspired here and there but I continue to struggle with my painting ideas. I'm also having a hard time finding a kiln for my tiles. grr.

As you know, I love Marc Jacob. le sigh. He's having a show for his Spring 2011 collection next weeek and I so want to gooo! He's also developing a plus sized line - I think up to size 20 *shock* that should be interesting. He's also opening up a bookstore in NYC. source: Vogue

Some of my favorites from his Spring/Summer 2010 and Fall/winter 2010 collection

I asked for a Sia bag for Christmas so see see if Jeff remembers especially after a Bloomingdale salesperson saw me hugging that very bag. She gave me a weird look but ah well, that's how much I love it. (pix below)

love these - minus the minnie mouse bow.

If I was a guy -i'd love to wear this swimsuit!! Jeff wouldnt be caught dead in it - poo!

am excited to see what 2011 will bring. I told Michelle that I want to visit NYC or Boston again this fall or early winter. I love NYC/Boston during the fall time and I get homesick just thinking about it. I'm getting that fall chills even though it's hot outside. ha.

my collection should be interesting- but will galleries accept my work even though I had NO previous shows.. ugh. Part of me is thinking about going back to school for that reason- just to have a show. Am I ready? not sure.

Home is where the heart is.

I've been in Rochester for the past two weeks - am petsitting two michevious furkids; an airedale named Bella and a Wheaten Terrier named Dublin. They are pretty good - ah chewed a couch here and there but good:)

Today I had to drive to Canfield Vet to pick up some medications for Tony and drove through Pittsford Village. I just felt like I was "home" - love Pittsford. Told myself if we have to move back to Rochester, Pittsford is where I want to live.

I'm always looking for deals - saw a few at Eastview mall but I was able to control my urges and said no no. Speaking of bargains... Jeff and I scored an awesome corner couch (ektorp) from craigslist - it was hardly used and the couple were moving and wanted it gone fasst. The con is the couch is white (I love white) but I couldnt bear the thought of washing the covers over n over because I knew my sheepies would get it dirty. but anyway I looked online for a cover in grey but it was so expensive! So we decided to wait until we have extra or until we get to the point when we NEED a new cover.... Anyway, later that week we went to ikea to get some neccessities and saw that they had discontinued the Ektorp couch and saw a box of covers.. I gasped when I saw they were on sale for 9 bucks!! of course all the good colors were picked over and only had pink. I got it anyway and will make it look masculine... just need to figure how:)

Pebby (Jeremy) is coming up from DC to visit for the weekend. Im so so so excited to see him and his furkids. more to update soon
